Celebrate Literacy WeekThe Florida Department of Education has designated January 24–28 as Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! This week is designed to raise awareness about the importance of reading, and to inspire Florida's students and families to make reading part of their daily routines.

The 2022 Celebrate Literacy Week theme is Launch Into Literacy, Blast Off Into New Worlds! With this theme in mind, Flagler Schools will be reading books with a variety of settings to support the New Worlds Reading Initiative program released this fall. 


Buddy Taylor Middle School will celebrate literacy with these fun daily activities:

BTMS kicked off Celebrate Literacy Week with our Books in the Backyard event on January 19th.

Launch Into LiteracyMonday, January 24th
  • Dreaming of a Good Book - Pajama day

Tuesday, January 25th
  • Living Library - Dress as a section of the BTMS library
    • Students can dress within a genre, dress as a character, or justify their outfit through the dewey decimal system (please do not wear full costumes or bring props).

Wednesday, January 26th

  • Dress as any of the following vocabulary words:
    • Monochromatic
    • Kaleidoscopic
    • Whimsical
    • Nostalgic
    • Lustrous
    • Austere
    • Leisurely
    • Melancholy
    • Avant-Garde
    • Imperceptible

Thursday, January 27th
  • Be a Good Sport and Read - Dress in team or sports gear

Friday, January 28th
  • Reading is Pun! - Dress as a pun, idiom, cliche or other figurative language term. Please watch our video at the bottom of this page to get and idea of creative ways to interpret this day!

EA Activities for the Week will Include:
  • Book Talks
  • Word Games
  • Rebus Puzzles
  • Puns and Idioms
  • Reading Reflection
  • One Word Activity
  • DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time for 20 minutes on Friday
